To continue and expand the important work of our organization we are
seeking contributions. Proceeds will enable The Illinois Advocate for the
Disabled to:

  •        Provide workshops for both the Disabled and Family members, so that
    they can better understand their rights under the law;

  •        Develop legal informational brochures and pamphlets that will be in print,
    put into Braille and also will be available on cassette;

  •        Training sessions on leadership and issue development for the Disabled,
    especially young people, their Families and Friends, so we can empower them
    to organize and win on issues that affect the Disabled;

  •        Develop a Legal clinic composed of pro bono attorneys and law students
    that will assist the organization and individuals in legal in legal matters
    involving their rights;

  •        Work with public officials to make sure that the laws protecting the
    Disabled are being enforced and when necessary to work on developing new
    regulations and legislation that will safe guard the Disabled community.
Expanding Future Services:
The Free Problem Resolution and Education Program: Currently Operating

will address all problems and concerns of the Disabled. Our program will instruct and assist our clients in how to fill out and choose the
appropriate agency to contact and file a complaint to obtain a resolution to their problems that will protect their civil and human rights under the
law. We will inform them on how to get their local, state and/or federal elected official’s office involved to help and in most cases expedite their
disposition also receiving additional information on available programs and perhaps grants that might help our client’s situation. Often times this
information is not disseminated to the Disabled until they are involved in a situation where they come into contact with their elected officials.
Contacting the other party on our client's behalf and offering an alternative to legal recourse will afford everyone a less expensive approach to
problem resolution.
The Free Legal Clinic:             In Progress

will offer professional instruction, advice and legal services from our staff attorneys when our problem resolution program fails to resolve their
problems. It is common knowledge that most attorneys will not take on a case if there is little or no profit to be made. Most of the Disabled’s
problems are not profitable, but they are very important to the individual living with the issue. When a person’s civil and human rights are being
violated and that person is denied legal representation because they can not afford the fees that is when the Illinois Advocate For The Disabled
will offer our services.
The Free Instructional Information Program:    Currently Operating

will allow our mission to reach our clients that would not ordinarily ask for help. The information will be researched and produced by our staff
attorneys and disseminated to hospitals, rehabilitational institutes, community centers, senior centers, other organizations and other agencies
that request them. These Instructional Information brochures and pamphlets will be in printed, produced in braille and in cassette form to assist
our clients what ever their disability. This information will address issues like: Housing, Transportation, School, Employment, Insurance,
Hospitalization, as well as, grants and other provisions available from local, state and federal agencies offering these programs.
The Free “On the Job” Job Training Program:        Future Program

affords our clients the opportunity to come in and get free on the job training and most important "EXPERIENCE." Our program will consist of
professional computer software training conducted by professional teaching staff, as well as, basic office training. Our clients will be involved in
the process of problem resolution that will empower them to protect their own civil and human rights. This opportunity will be experience that can
be applied to other positions in the community, as well as, experience on their RÉSUMÉ.
The Free Office and Home-Visit Services Program:    Future Program

will offer such services like legal services, forms filled out, employment applications, résumé development, housing located, problem resolution,
notary services, voter registration, grants and/or other programs available from local, state and federal agencies. This program, also, addresses
our clientele that are homebound and affords these clients the same professional services offered to any of our clients.
The Free Pickup and Drop-off Program:               Future Program

will offer our clients the opportunity to visit our office and receive our services with the convenience of door to door service. This service is
provided especially for those who can’t afford to pay for the trip to our office and/ or those that can not utilize public transportation because of all
the life sustaining devices that must come along with them. Our drivers will pickup and drop-off our clients utilizing handicapped-accessible vans.
The Adopt a School Program:          In Progress

will help instill a sense of self-esteem and self-importance to the very young children with disabilities. The school that we found provides early
learning for children with disabilities starting at age two. We know how much a struggle it is to have a child with a disability and provide medical
care, food and a home and still provide gifts for special occasions. Our plan is to provide gifts for these children on their Birthday and Christmas.
Cultivating in these children an understanding they are very important and most important a belief of self-worth, which contributes to
self-empowerment. They too are our future!
The Lobbying Program:             Currently Operating

addresses legislative issues that concern the Disabled in our community. Lobbying on behalf of the Disabled for better protections in the
current law, as well as, contributing to the creation of new protects for the Disabled only serves to help everyone in the community. There are so
many issue not addressed by present day laws like: here in Illinois we do not have a Assistive Technology Warranty Act “basically a assistive
device lemon law,” Illinois is one among eight (8) other states that still do not have this protection provided to their Disabled Citizens. We need
a nonpartisan advocate to help in addressing these issues to create a better society that helps to protect the weakest among us!
This site is under construction and is continually evolving, please come back soon and we will
have additional information available for you!
